= Welcome to Tycoon =

Tycoon is a market-based system for managing compute resources in distributed clusters like [http://www.planet-lab.org/ PlanetLab], the Grid, or a Utility Data Center (UDC). The basic idea is that users have a limited supply of credits. Consuming users pay providing users to use computer resource. Users who provide resources can, in turn, spend their earnings to use resources later.

This automated economic mechanisms allocates resources with more economic efficiency than standard proportional share and priority systems, and orders of magnitude more quickly than going through manual allocation.

Tycoon is currently a prototype implemented using Linux and Xen; a networked economy of hosts running the prototype; and a set of algorithms for doing economic resource allocation. As a result, this website has a diverse set of functionality:
